Daði Freyr’s “I Don’t Wanna Talk” feels laid-back and groovy while capturing a quiet intimacy

Date:

Daði Freyr rose to success in 2020 with his hit “Think About Things,” a track that has amassed over 100 million streams and was parsed by P!nk, Russell Crowe, and James Corden. Now, Freyr is back with “I Don’t Wanna Talk,” the first single off of his upcoming album.

The alternative pop track was born during a writing session in Berlin with music producer Daniel Schaub. “I Don’t Wanna Talk” uses soft synth textures and a laidback groove to capture a quiet, comforting kind of intimacy — a kind of love where words become unnecessary. The theme of the song is conveyed in the chorus with the lyrics, “I have nothing to say (nothing to say) / And that’s ok (that’s fine with me) / And we don’t have to fill the silence anyway.” He elaborates on the inspiration for the song:

“The song is about being so comfortable with somebody that you don’t need to fill the silence to have a good time. Sometimes it’s enough just to exist in the same space as somebody you love.”
