The powerful body of work sees Perez face themes of grief, faith, love and loss. Recorded and produced by Perez herself, the album processes the aftermath of losing her sister Celene, whose voice memos are interwoven throughout the album. The album examines Perez’s life over the last five years — from signing her first major label deal during the pandemic, getting dropped, returning home to her South Florida to begin anew and “how swimming through grief and romance challenge those things,” according to a press release.
On the debut LP, Perez said:
“This is the album I needed to listen to when I was twenty years old following the passing of my older sister, Celene. It’s taken years to process, and seeing how it’s colored everything in my life, it feels like a flag down in the sand at a checkpoint rather than a destination. And there was water everywhere for miles, and a girl met me there every time. I have been loved through my grief.”
Perez made her Billboard Hot 100 debut, with “Sailor Song” in August 2024 — continued to climb for 33 weeks and has generated nearly 1 billion streams, as well as reached Top 5 on Spotify’s US charts and Top 10 on Spotify’s Global chart.
