Melodic Music Monday: April 14

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

——

Twenty One Pilots, “Doubt (Demo)” – Surprise, Twenty One Pilots fans — the band just dropped the demo version of Platinum-Certified Blurryface track “Doubt.” The release comes a week shy of the album’s 10th anniversary and is accompanied by a music video featuring early live show footage from their tour in 2015. The beloved track is expected to earn over six million streams this week alone.

– Reagan Denning

——

Ed Sheeran, “Azizam” – Ed Sheeran has released his long-awaited newest single, “Azizam.” The song teases at a new sound for the superstar with the bright and high-tempo melody. Fans have anxiously been waiting for new music and he did not disappoint. The turn from his usual sound and the infusion of different cultural aspects make the song one that’s fresh amongst his discography.

– Ashley Cardenas

——

Shaboozey and Myles Smith, “Blink Twice” – The pop-infused country sound is an optimistic look to the future as Shaboozey states that “time flies so don’t blink twice.” The artist’s deep vocals against the timbre of the western guitar create a classic country sound with some gang vocals and foot stomping percussion, only adding to the tone. The single is a nice start to Shaboozey’s new music with a nostalgic look into the past while also looking forward to the future.

– Ezra Kendrick

——

The Wrecks, “I Didn’t Use To” – While frontman Nick Anderson has been open about his faults and self-doubt on past songs, this one gives us a full rundown. He mentions his guilty conscience and questions whether or not he talks too much and stays up too late. Yet, halfway through, he switches up the negative vibe and climbs into a better headspace. He begins to list all his nifty skills, like his four-octave range and “moderately fast” typing abilities. By the end, he goes from, “I think I was made wrong / But I didn’t use to,” to “I’m starting to think maybe I like / That I was made wrong / I didn’t use to,” realizing that it doesn’t matter if he is flawed or if he’s flawless—he’s just a person. A dynamically relatable person.
