“My Eyes,” the fourth single off of 40 Lashes‘ new EP, Cheer On, Rock On, Party On, is the 2025 pop punk hit you didn’t know you needed. With overarching themes of failed romance and lovers’ angst, 40 Lashes captures listeners with relatable conflict and signature punk sounds from the turn of the century.
A defining factor of 40 Lashes’ music is the constant homage to early 2000s punk-rock carried into their new music. “My Eyes” first hooks listeners with the familiar sound of blink-182 and Machine Gun Kelly, and then the single seals the deal with heartbreak and pained experiences.
The raw, emotional tone listeners hear in “My Eyes” is not an accident. Consisting of four members, 40 Lashes uniquely produced “My Eyes” as an all-hands-on-deck project, meaning each member contributed in their own unique way to the creation of the single. They elaborate:
“My Eyes’ sets pained, reflective lyrics against a wash of raw, emo-infused pop punk. It fuses the moody introspection of Tiger’s Jaw with the DIY power pop hooks of Joyce Manor.”
Released along with “Never Wanted,” “True Love,” and Left Out,” 40 Lashes uses “My Eyes” as part of a four-song saga of love, longing, pain, and heartbreak.
