Harrison Lipton announces new album ‘Between Us There Runs a Tether,’ shares title track featuring Yot Club

Date:

New York’s multi-talented triple-threat songwriter, producer, and artist Harrison Lipton returns with a major announcement: his long-awaited sophomore album, Between Us There Runs a Tether, will be released on May 7 via Amuse. Accompanying the news is the project’s sweeping, dreamlike title track “Tether,” featuring indie-pop favorite Yot Club. You can stream “Tether” and pre-order the album now. “This album is a snapshot of my late 20s,” Lipton says. He continues:

“Feeling down and out, pressured to find the right person, trying to figure out where to go next… It’s all about that thread running through life, the rope between past and future, joy and heartbreak. Between Us There Runs a Tether is about realizing I’m just one point on that line.”

“Tether” was born during a freeform writing session where Lipton leaned into untraditional song structure, two meandering hooks, no defined verse or chorus, and a sonic atmosphere that feels both introspective and weightless. When a chance errand brought Lipton to the apartment of longtime friend and collaborator Ryan Kaiser (aka Yot Club), the song was transformed. “He started jamming these insanely fast riffs,” Lipton recalls. “It just clicked — we had so much fun building it out.”

Lipton and Kaiser, pandemic-era internet friends turned Bushwick neighbors, have built a strong collaborative history, with previous tracks like “Human Nature” (from Yot Club’s 2024 album Rufus) and last month’s “On the Ground.” Their creative chemistry reaches a new peak on “Tether,” which arrived alongside an official video directed by Breanna Lynn. Featuring Ian Bakerman on drums and Ashley Mayorquin (Big Dumb Baby, May Rio) on keys, the video weaves dry humor, surreal meta moments, and a subtle exploration of duality, a perfect visual companion to the album’s emotional core.

To celebrate the album’s release, Lipton will host a release show at Brooklyn’s Public Records on Friday, May 9, with opening sets from Fetch Tiger and Sofia D’Angelo. Get your tickets here.

A far cry from the delicate tones of his 2018 debut Loveliness, Between Us There Runs a Tether finds Lipton transformed. In the years since, he’s racked up production and writing credits for artists like Yot Club, MICHELLE, FIG, and Mal Sounds, proving himself as one of the indie scene’s most versatile creative forces. Now, he’s reclaiming the spotlight, tracing the invisible threads that tie it all together and pulling us in closer.
