Brooke Alexx brings playful honesty and pop power to Orlando

Date:

On a warm spring night in Orlando on April 5th, Brooke Alexx made her debut as the opener for Nightly at The Beacham, and from the moment she stepped onstage, it was clear she was completely in her element.

Dressed in a hot pink mini skirt, bow-detailed tights, and white platform boots, Alexx opened with “Hot Like You,” a crowd-favorite from her debut album Big Mouth. The guitar-heavy, early 2000s-inspired track set the tone: confident, self-aware, and just the right amount of dramatic. The audience, still trickling in when the lights dimmed, quickly packed in toward the stage once they caught a glimpse of her. It’s not every day an opener commands that kind of presence.

After “Oldest,” Alexx surprised the room by hopping offstage and making her way to the center of the crowd. She sat on the floor, mic in hand, and said, “I get told a lot that sometimes I take myself too seriously and that I should just chill out and have some fun. So I wrote this song for anybody out there who’s ever felt like they can’t do that.” What followed was a stripped-down performance of “Seriously,” sung from the floor surrounded by a sea of fans who leaned in—not because she asked them to, but because the moment naturally pulled them closer.

There’s a certain charm to Alexx that doesn’t feel polished in the way pop stars often are. She’s sharp, yes—but not stiff. Her between-song banter felt less like a script and more like catching up with a friend who somehow makes you feel better about all your own chaos. She poked fun at herself, told stories about exes, and never lost control of the stage.

“Always Been You” came next, followed by a story about scrolling through Instagram and finding out her ex got engaged to the girl he dated after her. “So before Kipper,” she said, referencing her current boyfriend and longtime collaborator, “I found out my ex was engaged, and it really struck me. So I wrote this song about it.” She launched into “Stepping Stone,” one of the more emotionally charged tracks on Big Mouth, and delivered it with a level of control that was both vulnerable and unshakeable.

Then came the standout moment of the night. Before performing “Younger Guys,” she pulled a volunteer from the crowd to come onstage and tap out the opening loop on a drum pad. After cheering her on and helping her back down into the crowd, Alexx turned back to the mic, grinning. “One thing about Kipper,” she joked, “is that he’s a year younger than me.” The whole bit was funny, endearing, and interactive in a way that most pop shows never even try to be. And when the song hit, it hit hard. Breezy vocals, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, and an absolutely undeniable hook had the crowd singing along like they’d known it for years.

Alexx closed her set with “All My Exes’ Moms,” a joyful, confident anthem that had the entire venue bouncing. At the bridge, she had the crowd jumping in sync, arms raised, and shouting the lyrics. It was silly and specific and entirely hers.

Alexx doesn’t need backup dancers or pyrotechnics to make her point. She shows up on time, pours her heart into every note, and leaves everyone in the room a little more energized than when they walked in. Her sound blends early-aughts pop rock with the hyper-aware storytelling of a songwriter who’s figured out how to make embarrassment empowering. And while she may have been the opener, she had the entire crowd feeling like they’d seen the main event.
