Some bands emerge with a defined vision from day one. Others, like Slow Teeth, come together through unexpected circumstances, their sound shaped by experience rather than intent. What began as a creative outlet for Robert Chamberlain (drums, synthesizers), Justin Ellis (bass, vocals, keyboards), and Jeremy Haire (guitar, vocals) in Saxapahaw, North Carolina, during the summer of 2021 has evolved into something far greater than a side project.
As their collaborative chemistry deepened, Slow Teeth transitioned from improvised sessions into a formidable live act. By early 2022, they were performing across the East Coast, honing their ability to merge expansive post-rock textures with emotionally charged songwriting. Their debut album, I, out now, is a reflection of that journey—a balance between structure and spontaneity, raw intensity and cinematic atmosphere.
Recorded in Jeremy’s home studio, a creaky old house in Saxapahaw, and mastered by Mike Westbrook, the album captures a sound that is both intimate and grand in scope. Themes of familial bonds, societal collapse, and the passage of time run through the lyrics, while the music itself serves as a vehicle for catharsis and reinvention. Echoes of their influences—post-rock, shoegaze, ambient, and experimental indie—can be heard throughout, but their identity remains wholly their own.
Slow Teeth’s immersive live performances have already placed them alongside Explosions in the Sky, Xiu Xiu, A Place to Bury Strangers, and Holy Fawn, with shows at The Cat’s Cradle, The Ritz, The Drunken Unicorn, The Basement, and Berlin Under A in New York City. Their festival appearances include Carrboro Music Festival, Bull City Summit, Festival for the Eno, and the North Carolina State Fair.
With the album’s release, Slow Teeth is embarking on their most ambitious tour to date, beginning with an East Coast run before heading west for a series of performances across the U.S. and Canada.
