Charlotte OC returns with a fresh new chapter in her music. The singer-songwriter has taken a new artistic approach in her latest single, “God, We Tried”. This exciting new sound is only a glimpse into what’s to come early this summer with her new EP.
This new track is lyrically incredibly raw — it’s a brutally honest but beautiful tribute to the trials and tribulations of Charlotte’s authentic self. There’s a plea to be heard in lyrics such as, “They say time is all we need / I’m sick of hearing time’s a healer / We just need to bleed.” The emotionally charged lyrics paint clear visuals of what’s going on in her head for the listener. She expresses a very human emotion that, while personal to her, will resonate with a large audience. “God, We Tried” marks a new, honest space in her writing and creative endeavors that is very apparent just through the lyrics of the single.
The musical composition of the song also sticks out in this new era. There’s a soft drum melody and a strong highlight to her sulky and raspy vibrato full of emotion. It’s reminiscent of a more vintage folk/Americana sound. There’s a thick longing in her voice as she leads you through the message of the song and over it’s incredibly empowering.
Charlotte confesses that this song is reflective of a time during which it was difficult to process grieving and experience love altogether. This single is her authentic take on that entire chapter of her life. You can check it out below.
