Chappell Roan has finally released her new fan favorite single “The Giver” via Amusement/Island Records.
First debuted on Saturday Night Live last November, the track marks Roan’s first time diving into the country genre. “The Giver” is a fiddle-heavy song fueled with confidence, queer expression, and a showcase of dominance written by Roan, Dan Nigro, and Paul Cartwright.
In a new press release, Roan goes into more detail on why she decided to make a country song:
“I have such a special place in my heart for country music. I grew up listening to it every morning and afternoon on my school bus and had it swirling around me at bon fires, grocery stores and karaoke bars. Many people have asked if this means I’m making a country album??? My answer is.. right now I’m just making songs that make me feel happy and fun and The Giver is my take on country xoxo may the classic country divas lead their genre, I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for y’all.”
Now that the single has dropped, she is releasing five 7-inch limited edition vinyls with covers of her as different characters who “get the job done,” including a lawyer, a dentist, and a plumber. For the past month, those characters have been displayed in different cities all over the country on various billboards and flyers. If the job is writing the perfect country song, then Roan certainly gets the job done.
