Aussie punks Olivia’s World release single “Healthy & wealthy” ahead of debut album

Date:

Olivia’s World is held together by the tension of simultaneously producing a laid back, slacker rock sound and provoking a hidden angst— an unsuspecting revolution inside ready to explode. Their latest single “Healthy & wealthy” is fit with grungy, distortion-loaded guitars behind lead singer Alice Rezende’s sharply satirical lyrics and dead-pan performance.

Upon first listening to “Healthy & wealthy,” it instantly evoked similarities to early Riot Girl/punks of the late 70s such as The Raincoats or The Slits. Washed out guitars with upbeat riffs add to a sound which catches you off guard with its dancing melodic softness while offering sharply critical insight on society’s obsession with health fads and always seeking to perfect image, body, and mind. Just one miracle product will fix all your ailments— and it’s packaged in a tasty gummy!

Toting this message along in relaxed, rambling form, the track swells to a chaotic wash of fuzz before finally petering out. Perhaps never gaining the suspected intensity which the prickly lyrics merit, the commentary is ever more apt, leaving you with with a quiet rage inside as we are surrounded by an increasingly mundane world. The standout line for me is, “they say to level up don’t drink to get a buzz / all the while the morale is seriously low.”

Healthy and wealthy: an ideal image that the media feeds us. Olivia’s World opens the possibilities of self-realization and self-love by exploring carnal impulses and looking inside for the answers. Rezende adds about the new track:

“I wrote the lyrics to ‘Healthy & wealthy’ years ago … while I was on shift. On the occasion, I was afflicted with a bad case of hangover anxiety after behaving wildly at an art gallery opening (where I worked for said gallery). But it’s also about seeking good motives, and desire being a very good motive.”

Stream “Healthy & wealthy” below. I’m super excited for the new full-length album Greedy & gorgeous, releasing on March 14, 2025.
