Indie folk band The Head and The Heart recently shared details about their upcoming sixth studio album, Aperture, which also marks their debut on Verve Forecast. The album is due out May 9. The six-member group also recently their newest single, “After the Setting Sun” today, alongside the announcement of a much-anticipated 2025 North American Tour, kicking off later this summer.

A follow-up to 2022’s Every Shade of Blue, the news comes after the band released the single “Arrow” earlier this month, along with a version featuring the indie rock group Mt. Joy; the track was released in support of victims of the recent Los Angeles wildfires. Presave Aperture here.

The Aperture Tour will begin on May 31 in Detroit before concluding on Oct. 10 in Knoxville. Tour pre-sale begins Tuesday, March 4. For every ticket sold, $1 will be donated to the band’s very own Rivers and Roads Foundation, which raises money for Seattle-based music programs and initiatives, with an emphasis on equitable access to music education and mental health resources for musicians.

“I believe we’ve made a very great record together and obviously the title is an important aspect of the final product,” says group member Matty Gervais. “For me, Aperture represents the choice we all must make between resigning ourselves to darkness, or letting the light in and recognizing our own agency to do so. It feels relevant to the times, in that we’re literally choosing between authoritarianism vs. democracy. Ignorance vs. enlightenment on a macro scale, and complacency/cynicism vs. hope, empathy and perseverance on the micro scale. To me, it sums up a lot of what each of these songs is grappling with in some form and what we’ve collectively gone through as a band. It’s about choosing hope again and again, no matter how many times it may feel that you have lost it.”

The new album marks exciting milestones for the band, including pianist Kenny Hensley singing and writing lyrics for the first time, while drummer Tyler Williams takes on lead vocals for the first time.
