Atlanta’s Masquerade has seen its fair share of unforgettable nights, but few could match the sheer energy of Catch Your Breath‘s sold out Broken Souls tour with local natives, The Funeral Portrait as well as Archers and If Not For Me.
Hailing Atlanta as the best crowd of the tour thus far, metal-core powerhouses If Not For Me wasted no time getting the room moving. Their set was an electrifying mix of heavy riffs and guttural screams, playing songs from their recent album Everything You Wanted such as “Blameless” and “Demons.” Their energy was contagious throughout the crowd but especially over to the individuals selling merch. Before wrapping up with “Feel Me Now,” the band gave a heartfelt shoutout to Catch Your Breath, calling them an incredible band to tour with.
Metalcore band from Madison, WI, Archers followed with a powerful set, proving why Atlanta feels like a second home to them. “Thank you Atlanta for always making us feel like home,” front man Nathaniel Pulley shared before going on to express the gratitude of selling out Atlanta for the second time.
Atlanta natives and SiriusXM Octane chart toppers, The Funeral Portrait, brought their energy proving again why their name now goes far beyond their hometown scene. The neon lights glowing against a coffin centerpiece highlighted the band signature blend of gothic theatrics and high-energy showmanship. Font-man Lee Jennings delivered high kicks and twirls with rockstar confidence all while maintaining the highest of energies that never dipped or slowed down. “Hearse For Two,” which was written about the passing of Jennings’ grandmother, was performed for the first time in front of Jennings’ mother. Sharing on his Instagram, “If you don’t know our song Hearse For Two was written about the passing of my grandmother. So the idea of getting to play that in front of my mom while let me remind you I’m crying my eyes out onstage seeing 1,450 people sing along and also crying with me was life changing! Thank you Atlanta for your support always!” The band played a plethora of songs including favorites “You’re So Ugly When You Cry,” “Voodoo Doll,” and finishing their set with “Suffocate City.”
Commanding the stage with the authority of a band well on their way to stardom, Catch Your Breath closed out the night with a performance that was equal parts raw emotion and high-octane energy. Front man Josh Mowery kept the crowd engaged, cracking jokes about “dad bods” before shifting gears and leading the band into a set filled with new and old. Their setlist showcased the full range of their sound, from newer tracks from You Should Know Why like “Dial Tone,” “Shame On Me,” and “Good in Goodbye,” which was dedicated to guitarist Teddy Herrera’s late grandmother, and the older track “Criminal.” The show ended with “Shame On Me” before the crowd erupted with a request for an encore. The band of course obliging to the request, came out to finish the night with “Y.S.K.W.”
Catch Your Breath’s Broken Souls Tour delivers on all front with each band bringing their own brand of metalcore madness. If there was a lineup that screams juggernauts of tomorrow, this is it. If you’re a fan of the genre, don’t sleep on this tour.
