Almost four months since releasing his debut EP Waves on a Sunset in October, country singer-songwriter Tucker Wetmore is giving fans a first look at his upcoming debut record. The album, What Not To, is due out Friday, April 25, and is rich in interconnected themes, “like red yarn connecting a bunch of pins on a wall,” Wetmore says in a press release. You can presave/preorder What Not To here.

The album is led by “3,2,1”, released today (Feb. 21), which follows the 25-year-old’s No. 1 debut single “Wind Up Missin’ You” off Waves on a Sunset. Written by Josh Miller, Summer Overstreet and Jordan Reynolds, the song tells a story of Wetmore coming out of a breakup, filled with deep regret. He reflects on a past relationship filled that was marked by both love and mistakes. With vivid imagery, such as “sunset taillights” and “mascara on your shirt,” Wetmore ultimately realizes the relationship is over, becoming a painful reminder that not all things are meant to last. No matter how hard he tried or how important the relationship was at the time, Wetmore comes to understand that love just wasn’t enough and repeats the words, “Three words, two late, damn girl you’re the one that got away.” The song glides with heart and country charm, powered by heavy electric guitar swag.

On the other hand, he delivered a soul-stirring piano performance of the titular track “What Not To” on the Ryman stage during Universal Music Group Nashville’s Country Radio Seminar showcase, where he also unveiled plans for his highly anticipated debut album. This came just days after announcing his headline debut at the Ryman Auditorium on May 21. He co-wrote the song with his best friend Jacob Hackworth, LaCorte and Nashville powerhouses Chase McGill and Jameson Rogers. The song speaks to struggle and compassion, with Wetmore singing, “Momma said you don’t pray no more / breaks my heart, so I do it for you.”

Following his national television debut on NBC’s TODAY with Jenna & Friends, Wetmore is set to embark on his extended Waves on a Sunset Tour later this year, as well as join Thomas Rhett’s Better In Boots Tour, which spans 33 dates. With more than 79 million total global streams and 7 million monthly listeners on Spotify as of Feb. 21, Wetmore has garnered significant attention. An exploration of his highs, lows and lessons from his first 25 years on earth, Wetmore’s 19-track album dives into personal struggles with compassion and redemption, rooted in soul and heart.
