Sunday (1994) prep for “Doomsday” on first single of 2025

Date:

If 2024 was the coming attraction, then 2025 is the feature film for dream-pop band Sunday (1994). Last year, they introduced their larger-than-life sound and cinematic stories to the world with the release of their debut self-titled EP, which currently has over 6M global streams. Additionally, they opened for Girl in Red on her Midwest tour and played sold-out debut shows in LA, London, and NYC. Between the EP and these performances, the trio (comprised of Paige Turner, Lee Newell, and X) have received much praise from publications like DORK, The Line of Best Fit, and DIY Magazine, as well as support from radio stations such as BBC Radio 1, The Travis Mills Show, and NME Radio. As they get ready for their upcoming debut headline tour, Sunday (1994) are prepping for “Doomsday” with their first single of 2025.

Considering its ominous title, “Doomsday” opens in a very grand and lush style, complete with twinkling guitar. The rest of the single retains a quaint and rosy soundscape, until fans listen deeper to the destructive lyrics. With serene vocals that glide over the percussive beats, Paige sings, “Love is a sonnet / And I’m starting to choke / ‘Cause every time I sing for you / Heartbreak clears its throat / I’m waiting for doomsday.” As much as she wants to believe that the love she sees in her relationship is true, she is also aware that it could end at any minute.

Telling us about the inspiration for the single, Paige shares,

“When I love someone too much, I can’t help but wait for the inevitable. ‘Doomsday’ is a song about the ghost I can’t stop kissing, the funeral I keep dressing up for.”
