Bestfriend are head-over-heels in love on “HEADSTART”

Date:

Fans see alt-pop duo Bestfriend as their best friend. It may sound cheesy, but after hearing their music, you will want to be Bestfriend’s best friend as well. Their songs are introspective and clever, while their music videos are creative and amusing. It is easy to relate to the topics they discuss in their songs, whether it’s self-identity (like on “YOU LOOK JUST LIKE ME”) or breaking free from a routine (like on “WHY DO WE DO THIS?”) These singles make up one-third of Bestfriend’s upcoming EP,  BESTFRIEND HAS AN IDENTITY CRISIS, which is dropping May 9. It will contain more stories about these beautifully complex feelings, along with the feelings we hear on their new single, “HEADSTART.”

If there was ever a song that represented the feeling of having butterflies in your stomach, it would be “HEADSTART.” Its shimmering soundscapes and driving beats capture the nervous excitement one may feel when working up the courage to tell someone you love them. Throughout the track, we feel the suspense build and build until we get to the choruses, which are an explosion of emotion. Listeners will want to yell along to the words, “I CAN’T GET YOU OFF MY FUCKING MIND / I THINK ABOUT YOU ALL THE TIME!” glad that the moment has finally arrived.

Telling us more about “HEADSTART,” Bestfriend share,

“‘HEADSTART’ is definitely almost more of a pitch of what we’d hope we’d do in a situation like this, when in reality, such vulnerability is like, the hardest thing in the entire world to do. I’m supposed to actively tell someone I’m into them? What if they respond with literally any response of the entire set of possible responses? What then?? Vulnerability is probably one of those lifelong things you work on and never quite nail.”

Bestfriend’s upcoming EP, BESTFRIEND HAS AN IDENTITY CRISIS, will be available May 9. Its six songs were produced by Aidan Hogg (Jaguar Jonze, G-Flip, Sofia Isella), and promise to be a crazy exploration of young adulthood. Bestfriend explain,

“This is the first EP we’ve collaborated on in person, and it’s really felt like growing up in real time. We embraced all of the messiness, beauty, confusion, heartache, and headache that comes with figuring out who you are and where you’re going. We still haven’t figured it out yet — might not ever, honestly — but at least we figured out this EP, and that feels like a massive win in and of itself.”
