Tampa-based pop punk band Set It Off headlined in Prague, CZ, for the first time ever this past Sunday, Feb. 9. They played to a sold out crowd at MeetFactory alongside openers The Sunday Sadness, Call Me Amour, and Point North.
French modern metal band The Sunday Sadness (TSS) took the stage first, wearing all black and delivering a short but sweet performance. Their dynamic and theatrical stage presence served as the perfect warmup for a long evening ahead.
UK-based dark electronica band Call Me Amour was up next, and boy did they hype the crowd up. After just a short amount of time onstage, frontman Harry Radford hopped over the barricade and into the crowd, huddling with fans as he sang singles like “Blackout.” The band’s performance was punctuated by a cameo by Mikey Chapman of rock band Mallory Knox for the single “Good Day.” Call Me Amour left the stage with the crowd buzzing, promising to be back later this year.
The venue was humming with excited energy as Point North took to the stage. The pop punk band from Los Angeles treated fans to an incredible performance full of emotion and intensity. Opening with fan favorite “WORLD {vs} PEACE,” lead singer Jon Lundin and guitarist Andy Hershey strutted across the stage as the crowd welcomed them. Their set consisted of singles like “Into The Dark” and “Below The Belt,” with Cody Carson of Set It Off joining them on stage for the performance of the latter. Point North finished off their set with an emotional performance of the hits “Stitch Me Up” and “Safe and Sound” as Lundin encouraged fans to open up the pit.
The anticipation in the room was palpable as fans awaited Set It Off. The lights finally dimmed and a pre-recorded intro played, counting down the seconds until the band walked on stage. Lead singer Cody Carson finally appeared wearing a Philadelphia Eagles jersey (it was Superbowl Sunday, after all), and the band opened with their newest single “Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing [REBORN],” a new rendition of their original song released in 2014.
Set It Off is famous for connecting with fans through their sincerity, authenticity, and approachability, and they certainly stayed true to these values during their performance. Carson thanked the crowd profusely and often performed with a huge smile on his face, expressing his gratitude for getting to share these special moments with the crowd and getting to go through this together. He introduced several songs by relating to the audience, constantly telling us, “if you’ve ever felt this way, this song is for you.”
Carson kicked off the second half of the set by taking to the drums to swap places with a shirtless Maxx Danziger, who took over the mic to sing fan favorite, “Hypnotized.” A cheering crowd welcomed him to the front of the stage and soaked up the single for as long as they could.
The energy continued with hits like “Parasite” and “Killer in the Mirror.” He encouraged more fan participation by asking everyone to get low and proceeded to make jokes with the one fan in the middle who disobeyed the command because of a bad knee.
And, of course, what would a Set It Off set be without their most famous single, “Why Worry”? Fans absolutely lost it as they played this hit as their “last” song. Of course, they quickly returned to the stage to play the first song that they ever released as an independent band, “Punching Bag,” as their encore.
About halfway through their set, Carson had told the crowd “this time is gonna fly by, so don’t let it slip away,” and he was absolutely right. Set It Off kept fans moving the whole time and they clearly had the time of their lives doing it. With fans selling out the venue for their first headlining show in the city, Prague showed the band that they’ll always be welcomed here with open arms.
Set It Off will continue their tour throughout Europe and the UK before heading back stateside for a North American run and some festival appearances. You can find tickets to all upcoming dates here.
