Sunflower Bean announce fourth album ‘Mortal Primetime’ and unveil new single “Champagne Taste”

Rock band Sunflower Bean is ushering in a new season with the most vulnerable record of their career yet, Mortal Primetime. The new album, which is their first self-produced effort, sees the band finding new purpose after losing everything only to rebuild again and is due out April 25.

It comes three years after the release of their third album, Headful of Sugar (2022), as the three-piece group — Julia Cumming, Olive Faber and Nick Kivlen — has embarked on various solo projects since. Inspired by alternative rock, dreamy psychedelia and arena-sized ambition, the album features mixing by Caesar Edmunds (The Killers, Wet Leg) and engineering by Sarah Tudzin (Illuminati Hotties, Boygenius).

Preorder Mortal Primetime now.

When you preorder, you’ll get access to color vinyl variants, merch, bundles and more! The vinyl is extra luxe, featuring a high-gloss laminated, embossed sleeve with a gatefold and printed inner.

“You get to decide what your prime is, and you fight for it,” bassist and vocalist Cumming says. “This is ours, and that can’t be taken away by circumstance. We can’t take it away from each other. This moment, where we are now, is what we’ve always fought for.”

The lead single from Mortal Primetime is “Champagne Taste,” a song about reckless determination and a nod to Sunflower Bean’s longtime alias for secret shows where they tested new material. With guitar riffs, power chords and vocals heavily inspired by The Idiot, the band shares what the song means to them.

“This song came after a period that felt like rock bottom for the band. It is about feeling beaten down but still driving forward, to keep faith, to grow and to continue to create on our own terms, our Mortal Primetime.”
