quickly, quickly blends unpredictable noise with emotion on new single “Enything”

Date:

Graham Johnson, the face behind quickly, quickly, confronts genre-bending head-on to create the uncategorizable “Enything”—a jazzy, groovy tune infused with electronic elements from his upcoming album I Heard That Noise, out April 18. The Portland, Oregon-based musician gravitates toward making music an experience, taking listeners on a spontaneous journey filled with emotion, noise and unpredictability. The uniqueness of quickly, quickly’s projects is a breath of fresh air, challenging the idea of categorizing songs into a single genre—much like the work of Mk.gee, Dijon, Alex G and Bon Iver

“Enything,” a song whose title suggests a playful tone, contains a little bit of everything. It opens with a long, pulsing intro that glides into the delicate first verse, “Tell me sweet things / Tell me how the world made you lose your keys / This time, I’m gonna be everything you need.” This song explores the idea of surrendering oneself for another person, incorporating multi-layered textures, strange noises and heavy distortion to reflect the complex and unpredictable nature of this love. The chorus introduces euphoric background vocals that transform the song from one-dimensional to multidimensional, with emotion driving the instrumentation. The haunting yet soulful sound quickly, quickly crafted supports the freedom of artist creativity—something that keeps the music industry alive.

On “Enything,” Johnson shares:

“I wrote this song from a fictional place of dumb love. There is a place you can find yourself in where you are so infatuated with a person you would do anything to impress them, even to a fault, drastically changing yourself to match the idea of someone you barely know. That is what I tried to embody on this one.”
