Save the “Crocodile Tears” for Ellis King’s new single

Date:

Emerging singer-songwriter Ellis King demonstrates her incredible talent in new single “Crocodile Tears,” a part of her debut EP, Better Luck. Complex songwriting combined with mellow indie and 2000s alternative influences produce King’s witty but aching track.

King’s vocals, comparable to the voices of Halsey and Gracie Abrams, blend seamlessly into the entirety of “Crocodile Tears.” Her voice, inflicting the pain of what once was, dissects the embellishments of her partner, which allows King to seemingly arrive at the conclusion that the relationship was a facade. She elaborates:

“It’s about dating someone who didn’t care as much about me as I did about them and them knowing from the start, they didn’t want anything more from me but continuing to see me and so dragging out the inevitable in a painful way.”

“Crocodile Tears” incorporates the soft strum of acoustic guitar paired with faint strings and a steady beat reminiscent of Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated.” Whether listeners are experiencing the end of a romantic relationship, a platonic relationship, or simply are in their feels, King’s single proves relatable yet comforting to reflect on.

King’s track also provides an interesting perspective considering the lyrics, “Credit to your crocodile tears / Yeah, they go undefeated,” and, “And after all the years of applause / Could you just stay seated,” because it credits the subject of this single for successfully tricking King.

Ellis King could not have created a better introduction to her debut EP than “Crocodile Tears,” which will relate to listeners by sharing feelings of yearning, misdirection and hurt.
