Avery Lynch is tired of guys who can’t commit on “the boys who don’t know what they want”

Date:

It is daunting to sing your heart out, backed only with the chords of a fine-tuned piano. Still, singer and songwriter Avery Lynch is doing just that – with seemingly no fear. Her piano-based songs have captured the hearts of millions of listeners, who all are enchanted by her expressive storytelling and emotional vocals. Since her debut in 2020, Avery has earned praise from tastemakers like Just Jared and EARMILK and even signed to RECORDS last year. This rising artist knows what she wants and is so over those out there who have no idea what they want, which she tells us about in her new single.

In “the boys who don’t know what they want,” Avery gets real about the guys in the dating scene who make it hard to navigate said dating scene. Her sweet yet somber vocals dance lightly over the piano melodies, as she vents about guys who can’t commit. She sings, “I’m done holding on / To boys who don’t say what they want / Like it’s wrong / To feel something and tell them / I’m done finding someone / Who won’t ever try hard enough / The boys who don’t know what they want.” While listeners might feel the weight of this concept, they can also find power in Avery’s story. She takes control of this narrative, in the end, each time she declares, “I don’t want to be wanted that way.” You can check it out below.

About “the boys who don’t know what they want,” Avery shares,

The title of the song really says it all. I wrote this song about those ‘almost’ relationships that I’ve been in myself and have observed around me — people will act that part of someone in a relationship while not wanting one, or they’ll want a relationship and not act on it. I made this song as a sister-song to ‘you’re just a guy’ and, just like that song, this doesn’t feel specifically sad to me, it feels more matter-of-fact. It’s just something I’ve observed that we’ve all experienced and don’t want to experience anymore.”
