Indie rock artist Charles Costa, formerly known as King Charles, released his newest track, “Thief,” on Dec. 4 ahead of his self-titled album set to drop Jan. 25.
“Thief” brims with smooth textures which are spellbinding to the ear as Costa continues his rich aesthetic that has outlined his career. Alongside Jesse Quin and Tom Hobden, Costa is unlocking a tapestry of sounds that will make the Charles Costa album all the more compelling.
About “Thief,” Costa said:
“This song came out of an album I made but eventually scrapped. I liked this song and wanted to keep it alive. Sometimes I make connections with songs like they’re friends and want them to keep me company. Thief is about the savagery of heartache. The journey from hope to despair. I put a great significance on the idea of love and attach a lot of hope to it – so when it collapses or isn’t real the longing turns into a lament.”
Costa’s introspection in this new stage of his career has been largely influenced by his endeavors in charity, including completing 90 marathons in 90 days to raise over £167,000 in support of James’ Place, which seeks suicide prevention for men. Most recently, he took on 40 marathons in 40 days with impromptu performances along the way in support of a youth and community charity called Regenerate.
Costa’s new album is now available for pre-order.
