Dexter and The Moonrocks, a small-town Texas alt-rock band known for their unique blend of “Western Space Grunge” and “sad cowboy songs,” have quickly captured the attention of music fans. Formed by a fry cook, an oil field worker, a concrete surface decorator, and a children’s baseball coach, the band transformed a former country/western project into an alt-rock sound only possible in small-town Texas. In just two years, they’ve amassed over 65 million streams and 700,000 followers on TikTok.
Their debut radio single, “Sad in Carolina,” has been steadily climbing the alternative rock charts, recently surpassing Sum 41 to become the #1 song at the format. The track, from their EP Western Space Grunge (Severance Records/Big Loud Rock), has earned more than two million streams in just two weeks. In addition, their viral cover of Tyler Childers’ “Messed Up Kid” continues to average 100,000 streams per day.
With this momentum, the band has announced their first tour dates for 2025. The tour kicks off on February 7 in Austin, Texas and finishes up on March 1 in Oxford, Mississippi and will hit states including Georgia and South Carolina.
