Over the years, left-of-center alt-pop duo IDER have built a striking catalog of music that encourages listeners to dance just as much as feel. Critics and fans alike have been able to see themselves in the songs that IDER have put forth, with the duo’s incredible storytelling captivating the likes of CLASH, DORK, and The Line of Best Fit. Their upcoming album, Late To The World, is already continuing to flaunt IDER’s storytelling expertise, as heard in the release of singles like “You Don’t Know How to Drive,” “Unlearn,” and the most recently released title track. Due for release on February 21, 2025, Late To The World “represents IDER’s long and continuous journey of self-discovery both as individuals and as a band,” as mentioned by the press. This journey is filled with plenty of life-changing events, and IDER express their thoughts on one of these events on “Know How It Hurts.”
An anthem that supports women’s rights, “Know How It Hurts” could not be any more relevant in today’s society. It was written in response to the abortion bans that have been implemented across the United States, channeling the disappointment and pain that comes with such a historic change. Over the rhythmically diverse textures, which give the song a euphoric edge, IDER give listeners a comforting chorus with lines like, “You don’t have to hide it / I know how it hurts / It’s hard to describe it / You don’t have the words / We still have to fight it / We still have to work / You don’t have to hide it / I know how it hurts.” With “Know How It Hurts,” listeners will feel as if they are not alone.
Telling us more about the inspiration behind “Know How It Hurts,” IDER explain,
“We started writing this song a couple of years ago in reaction to the abortion bans in the USA. It’s about the collective feeling of hurt and disempowerment that was felt during this time and continues to be felt. More personally, it’s about looking back at being a young girl and not knowing how to fit in. It’s an anthem for anyone who feels affected by patriarchal ideologies.”
Along with the release of “Know How It Hurts,” IDER have announced the news of a world tour that will commence in the spring of 2025. The North American portion of this tour will begin April 10 in Vancouver, make its way through cities like San Francisco and Chicago, and will finish in Brooklyn on April 24.
