Oh, you said you want some fuzz? Well, Mondaze’s new single “Lines of You” IS fuzz. The stunning shoegaze track by the Faenza-based band sounds as though it was a child derived directly from Slowdive and my bloody valentine.
The single is pumped full of grunge tone, driving home an intense feeling of melancholia as the pounding drums carry on into a complete wall of noise, leaving listeners to continuously crave a headspace filled with static and craze. And sometimes, that’s all we really need to tune out the world around us.
“Lines of You” is the opening track of the group’s upcoming album, Linger, which comes out November 22. The single explores loneliness in the face of never-fading memories of something or someone lost. When we look back and appreciate what we once had, we grow stronger and move past the pain that once made us feel weak and helpless.
I usually include lyrics in my reviews, but you cannot understand/hear a word said in the song. That is pretty much acceptable in my book when it comes to some heavy shoegaze; it almost illuminates the soundscape for what it is meant to be.
The music video follows a subject in despair over their partner, who is no longer in the picture. She is shown as an orb of a being, illuminated like a ghost. He, the subject, eventually finds a way to let go, being okay knowing that the experience they had will always remain.
There are some pretty dramatic yet beautiful shots to enjoy along the way. It is a bit cheesy but helps listeners better understand what the band is trying to convey. Mondaze consists of Matte Vandelli (vox, guitar), Margherita Mercatali (guitar), Lorenzo Capacci (bass), and Michele Leonardi (drum).
