Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:
Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler, “ashes & rust” – The album brent iii opens with “ashes & rust,” which has garnered significant buzz among fans. Built from pain and anguish from a distant relationship with a father figure, the song explores this emotional disconnect and disappointment stemming from indifference and selfishness. Through moments like missing a family member’s funeral and barely showing any attention, Zucker and Cutler create a sense of emotional abandonment that establishes a melancholic tone permeating the 11-track record.

Boy In Space, “Too Much To Lose” – On “Too Much To Lose,” Boy In Space grapples with his desires. He presents listeners with a story of two lovers who seem perfect for each other but could risk losing it all if they ended up together. The forward-moving grooves, lively pop beats, and captivating melodies set a charming scene as Boy In Space sings, “There you are just spinning around me / In that brand new dress / Eyes like brandy, knew she could have the / Heart beneath my chest.”
– Christine Sloman
——
Coyote Theory, “Waiting on the Weather” – “Waiting on the Weather” is about waiting for outside forces to create change in your environment. Through steady percussion and light guitar, Coyote Theory watches their life slip away because they lack confidence in their ability to take charge. The chorus sings “I need it more than ever / I’m feeling overwhelmed / You’re waiting on the weather / I can’t control myself” showing the push and pull between wanting to take a backseat and leading the way to create this change they are looking for.
– Emma Celenza

Great Good Fine Ok and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, “Let’s Talk” – Great Good Fine Ok teamed up with Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness to explore heavy themes of fear and insecurity in their newest single “Let’s Talk.” “Let’s Talk” is a vulnerable open dialogue of different concerns that plague the musicians. They reflect on anything and everything surrounding family, health and career struggles and the nihilistic perspectives on these ideas. Essentially, the singers are “just trying to keep it real.”
