Country pop singer-songwriter Lindsay Ell hails from from Canada and is known for her introspective writing and incredible musical talents. Her latest album, love myself, focuses on finding confidence and bettering yourself.

Opening with “story i tell myself”, Ell opens up about her insecurities. Through punchy percussion and strong vocals, she sings about her struggles with her mental health. This transparency is seen throughout the album on songs such as “the hard way” and is key to sharing what she has learned on her journey of self-discovery.

Ell is very open about her nonlinear healing journey. On “pain tolerance”, she reflects on her toxic attachment to a past partner. Through light guitar and soft percussion, she seeks to find a reason for her trouble letting go of this relationship. This pain is reflected in “what did i do?”, where she asks what her role was in the end of a relationship. While the feelings in these songs are hard to process, talking about them lets her reflect on those situations and express the emotions that came with them.

Closing with the self-titled “love myself,” Ell focuses on the theme of the album. Using layered harmonies and soft guitar, Ell shows herself forgiveness for her bad moments because she is on a journey of growth. Here, we learn that the message in love myself is about showing grace to yourself during tough times. While Ell has had ups and downs during her healing journey, she has continued to push through no matter the challenges. love myself is not only about encouraging listeners to care for themselves in body, mind, and soul, but it also inspires listeners to keep pushing to reach better days.
