On October 31, fiery pop rock duo Kiss Bang released their new single “Drag.” The band’s first release since their debut EP Horrors Of Your Hometown released earlier this year, “Drag” builds upon the iconic sonic vitality that the band has become known for while making it very clear that Kiss Bang has busted the doors open of a new musical era.
While teasing the release of “Drag,” Kiss Bang — composed of vocalist Kaya Stewart and guitarist Max Mercier — made it very clear that with their newest single comes the dawn of a new era: Kiss Bang 2.0, it’s been referred to as. The band has said “Drag” is their favorite song to date, and undoubtedly it serves as the phoenix that rose from the old Kiss Bang’s ashes.
Ahead of the song’s release, Mercier said in a post on Instagram that “Drag” arose after he and Stewart spent a long time following the release of Horrors Of Your Hometown to figure out both the project and themselves. Staying true to Kiss Bang’s signature retro alt-pop sound, “Drag” lyrically conveys a longing for something more in a relationship. As they combine vulnerability and desperation with hard-hitting synths and guitars, it’s evident that “Drag” defines the magnitude of Kiss Bang as they bring their meticulous, sonic energy full force.
In an industry where it’s often encouraged to stick to the status quo, Los Angeles-based Kiss Bang have made it clear from day one that they plan on breaking the confines of what’s usually known as popular music. With an artistry that is intense, rebellious and addicting in its cathartic melodies, Kiss Bang carries a musicality unrestricted by labels or time. With a sound that is both retro and futuristic, Kiss Bang flawlessly and ferociously transcends the restraints of modern music.
To roughly quote Mercier: Kiss Bang is for those who love life, those who love love and those who love rock ‘n’ roll.
