Julia Raye tries to get used to life after a breakup on “Wish You Stayed”

Date:

Over the summer, Julia Raye released the striking “Give You Up,” an anthem about choosing someone who you know is bad news. It was a fun song for the summer, a single that captures the sizzle and fleeting romance of the season. It also contained the eclectic spirit of Julia’s music, as it featured a mix of lively genres and textures. Of course, we are now in ‘Sad Girl Autumn,’ so the festive and carefree summer jams are on hold until next year. For now, we can empathize with “Wish You Stayed,” which is Julia’s latest single.

On “Wish You Stayed,” Julia tries to embrace the change that comes with ending a relationship. Throughout the track, she realizes the little things that she now has to accept, like remembering she doesn’t need to text this person, or wondering if it’s appropriate to call him. To the gentle strumming and steady percussion, Julia sings, “And when we said we’re done / I thought that I’d move on” and “I wish you stayed / But I’m not / What you crave,” finding it harder than she thought to get through the breakup.

About “Wish You Stayed,” Julia shares,

“I wrote this song in the midst of mourning a relationship, so I took inspiration from all of the texts I sent to friends and the little notes I’d written down on my phone. Ultimately, it’s about cherishing and reflecting on the good moments, even when you know it’s time to let go.”

You can listen to “Wish You Stayed” on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and SoundCloud.
