Nearly ten years in the making and Giant Rooks are proving to be one of the most exciting acts in the indie scene. Since their conception in 2015, the German band has racked up millions of streams and views with their music, leading to sold out shows across Europe and North America. In 2020, their debut album, ROOKERY, reached #3 on the German Albums Chart and received over 200M streams. A couple years later, their 2019 hit single “Tom’s Diner” found its way back into the spotlight, receiving over 250M streams, landing in the Spotify Top 200 in 30 different markets, and reaching #83 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
The band has accomplished so much in various ways, and they were able to express the impact of it all on their sophomore album, How Have You Been?, back in February. Whether they were begging for a change on tracks like “Morning Blue” or falling in love on “Somebody Like You,” Giant Rooks tapped into personal yet universal emotions that resonated with fans. In the months that followed, the band went on tour in support of the album, playing over 90 shows for crowds both near and far. They recently played their last show of the year, but that doesn’t mean the music stops…
On their new single “Mind Control,” Giant Rooks seize the day. They know that life is short and tomorrow is never guaranteed. It sounds like it is an emotionally moving track, and it is, but the cheerful piano chords and lively percussion keep the mood light. With an infectious spirit, lead vocalist Frederik Rabe sings, “I run up every hill / Watch me chase every thrill / That’s what I do / I wish I knew / That we are just passing by / And one day, everyone dies / If this is true / I’mma hit the ground running,” ready to embrace every moment.
