elijah woods explores eternal love in “Skin & Bones”

Date:

elijah woods is saying “I do” in his romantic ode, “Skin & Bones.” This new single serves as the lead release of woods’ second EP, Elijah Would!, a soft, personal follow-up to his previous eclectic EP Hey There Elijah.

The Canadian singer-songwriter and producer cultivates graceful melodies to convey the tenderness of an eternal love. This dreamy acoustic track pairs guitar duets harmonizing alongside alluring vocal harmonies from woods. The singer delivers delicate falsetto to reinforce the folk undertones of the track.

“Skin & Bones” is a love letter to woods’ wife, Hannah, vowing that he always knew he would love her. This track was self-produced and written between the two in under an hour, one week prior to their wedding, as woods reflected on this transformative chapter in their lives:

It’s a deeply personal song that captures this special moment in our lives.”

The track’s title is a grim play on the phrase, “‘til death do us part,” where he sings, “I love you ’til you’re skin and bones.” woods delivers beautifully warm lines reflecting on the intimacy of domestic love with lines like, “we built this love to last / To have and to hold / Turn this house to a home.” The songwriter continues his vows in promising he will always be by her side: “You’re not in this world alone / It’s me and you.”

The multi-platinum selling artist is offering five other tracks on this EP, including previous single, “What It Means,” showcasing his honest storytelling and emotional maturity in both his lyrics and his sound. “Skin & Bones” marks a fresh and intimate rebirth for elijah woods’ sound and journey.

Somewhere at the intersection between my love for music and my love for writing lies my passion for music journalism. While the title still seems silly, the ability to capture an artist's creation and share it with the world will never cease to excite me. As a psychology student, I continue to be fascinated with the underlying mechanisms of the human condition. What better way to understand the human mind if not through a person's art?
