Melodic Music Monday: October 21

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

Alessia Cara, “(Isn’t It) Obvious” – The 28-year-old Canadian alt-pop artist, known for her breakout single “Here,” which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2014, is building anticipation for her upcoming project. Today (Oct. 21), she unveiled the second single from the album, “(Isn’t It) Obvious,” a collaboration with John Mayer. The track is accompanied by a music video and after it recently was featured on an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

The Hvnter, “Bury the Dead” The Hvnter’s new single rocks out with intensity and delivers precisely what the artist seems to be known for, produced tracks for TV and commercial use. With this new single, “Bury The Dead,” the song is being used for an episode of Lucifer on Netflix: “You can take what you want I don’t need it / You break what you want I don’t feel it / You can take every tear I don’t mind it / You can run but you know I’m a fighter.”

– Amelia Rodriguez

——

Jerm, “Not Afraid” – Jerm’s new track hails from the depths of his bedroom “when his roommate is trying to sleep,” although his sound is far from sounding DIY. This self-produced and co-written song relies on the “nostalgic blend of 2000s pop punk and ‘90s alternative rock,” emulating great names in the scene that have come before him, such as State Champs, Weezer, or Sitting on Stacy.

– Kelly Carciente

——

Corzine, “Guarded” Singer-songwriter Haley Lewis, better known as Corzine, has released her new single “Guarded” that really captures in sound what angst within a relationship can be like. There’s an energy in the song that’s hard to ignore – it’s borderline infectious but the overall foundation of the song is definitely her songwriting. This track in particular sounds straight out of a coming-of-age movie that will bring in an audience based on that familiarity alone.
