Ethel Cain has announced her new album, Perverts, set to release on Jan. 8, 2025, two years after her acclaimed debut, Preacher’s Daughter. The Tallahassee native shared the news on Instagram along with the artwork for the lead single, “Punish,” which is set for release in two weeks (Friday, Nov. 1).
Her debut album, which introduced a fictional character bearing her name, was celebrated for its Southern Gothic themes, addressing issues like religious indoctrination, sexual violence, isolation and family trauma. It received critical acclaim and appeared on numerous year-end best music lists, helping her cultivate a devoted online following.
In 2024, during her third concert tour, the Childish Behaviour Tour, Cain performed several new songs, including “Punish,” “Dust Bowl” and “Amber Waves,” the latter of which was initially intended for Preacher’s Daughter. Recently, she teased upcoming music on social media, posting grainy black-and-white photos with captions such as “Apathy,” “Disruption” and “Assimilation.”
