No current rock group seems to be defining the next generation of rock and roll more so than Los Angeles-based punk rock group The Linda LindasComposed of Eloise Wong (bass, vocals), Bela Salazar (guitar, vocals), and sisters Lucia de la Garza (guitar, vocals) and Mila de la Garza (drums, vocals), the group has risen to become a definitive name within modern rock music. Having just finished touring alongside The Smashing Pumpkins and Rancid on Green Day’s The Saviors Tour, The Linda Lindas are currently celebrating the release of their sophomore album No Obligation, released October 11 via Epitaph Records.

Having formed in 2018, The Linda Lindas embody a youthful, charming, and ferocious musicality — one not seen since the era of The Runaways or The Ramones. When the band members were young, all ranging from 11 to 17 years old, Martin Wong — Eloise’s father — was the one who encouraged them to form a band. Originally intended to be a one-time act for a music festival, The Linda Lindas decided to continue on.

In 2022, the outfit released their debut album Growing Up, which featured their now hit song “Racist, Sexist Boy.” The track, which was inspired by a racist comment a classmate made towards Mila before the COVID-19 pandemic, launched the band into fame after it was praised by the likes of Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, Bikini Kill’s Kathleen Hanna, and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea.

The Linda Lindas have gone on to perform at Riot Fest and Coachella, and have opened for everyone from Bikini Kill, The Rolling Stones, and Paramore, among others. After actress Amy Poehler discovered the band after watching them open for Bikini Kill in 2019, she had the band record the soundtrack to her film Moxie (2021) which also helped ignite their career.

Most recently, The Linda Lindas dropped No Obligation, their second studio album. Conveying a heightened maturity from the group, as well as a heavier-leaning sound, it’s exciting for rock fans to see that The Linda Lindas still have many great things in store, and this is only just the beginning. On their newest musical effort, the punk group maintains their signature defiance, one that fights for themselves as well as the greater good.
