Last Friday, October 4, American post-hardcore band Our Last Night brought their You’re Up Europe Tour to Prague’s SaSaZu Music Club, returning to the city for the first time in 5 years. This time, they were accompanied by Swedish post-hardcore band Normandie and German heavy pop band Lifespark.
Lifespark’s opening performance was the perfect warmup for the evening. They brought the energy from the very start, even performing a heavier take on Natasha Bedingfield’s hit single “Unwritten” to get fans going. The lead singer delivered a dynamic performance and couldn’t stop smiling as he interacted with the crowd.
Normandie was up next, exploding out of the gate with their appropriately titled hit “Serotonin” from their most recent album Dopamine, which was released in February of this year. They were constantly encouraging the crowd to dance along throughout their performance, making sure that their energy radiated throughout the room and getting everyone involved. They took the energy up a notch and the audience went crazy for “Babylon,” one of their catchiest singles from their 2021 album Dark & Beautiful Secrets. Normandie was unique in that they were the only band of the night whose set was made up solely of original music, even reaching back into their 2018 discography with “White Flag” as their closer.
Between Normandie and Our Last Night, the room was buzzing with anticipation. With the crowd properly warmed up, Our Last Night took the stage. They opened with their original song “Graveyard” before launching into heavy renditions of “Astronauts in the Ocean” and Tove Lo’s hit single “Habits.”
The band has gained recognition for their post-hardcore covers, so it came as no surprise that their set contained a good mix of original songs and heavy versions of popular pop songs. It was the perfect way to get every single member of the audience involved, as everyone in the room was guaranteed to know each cover song performed. The band even had fans moshing to Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse,” a feat only Our Last Night could accomplish.
But their original music hits just as hard, if not harder. Their newest single, “PAY ATTENTION,” was a hit with the crowd as lead vocalist Trevor Wentworth encouraged the crowd to open up the pit. Wentworth’s energetic performance and incredible vocals were accented perfectly by the use of smoke cannons across the stage, adding another layer of intensity to the song. Their emotional track “Sunrise” was another emphatic moment as the band connected with the crowd.
After a rendition of Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things,” Our Last Night teased the audience and left the stage before coming back for an epic encore: “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls.
Our Last Night delivered a wonderfully dynamic performance throughout and interacted in a loving way with the audience, constantly thanking us for being there and emphasizing their desire to come back to Prague again very soon. The performance was perfectly punctuated by the use of the smoke cannons, framing the stage and emphasizing key moments during the show. The band put on an amazing show and delivered an unforgettable night for fans, who are undoubtedly already looking forward to their return.
