In a recent Audacy Check In with Bru, indie star Hozier shared about his life on tour and future plans. In 2023, Hozier released his third studio album, Unreal Unearth, and has since embarked on tour, playing songs from this release and other popular tracks.
Unreal Unearth was centered around nine themes inspired by Dante’s Inferno. It was challenging sorting through the music created to see what would make the original release, other additions to the album, or what would not be shared from the project. “Everything that I felt like, ‘this nearly made the record,’ ‘that could have made the album,’ or ‘if we’d finished it in time,’ or ‘this was battling out for another song,’ I feel really glad that I’ve released a lot of that after-work, or work that didn’t make the album proper.” Hozier shares.
“Picking between what makes it to an EP and what doesn’t make it or makes it to an album is a long process… It’s like picking which children go on the lifeboat,” he jokes. “It can be tough and there’s ones that you really feel so close to and you feel very protective of certain songs and you really want them to see the light of day… so it’s tough.”
Reflecting back on his first album, Hozier recalls his previous experiences on the road. “Life on the road kind of becomes this blur of it feels like no time passes and it feels like a lifetime as well.” He spent about six of the ten years since the release of his eponymous debut album touring or promoting on the road. His Unreal Unearth Tour provides him an opportunity to experience more. With his single “Too Sweet” becoming his first ever #1 single and the release of new songs while touring, Hozier has fans excited for what comes next. Sharing more about his experience, Hozier comments, “It’s been great. The experience has been rewarding. The crowds have been amazing… It’s been fun.”
As for the future of Hozier, he hopes to continue doing what he loves most: creating music. “I really enjoyed making the last record. I’m kind of at that point now where I’m hungry again to have space and time to think about new music, and I’ve pretty much emptied all of my pockets now at this point… I’m kind of hungry to feel my way through new work again.”
Until then, Hozier hopes to go back to simpler times. “I have a couple of weeks off between now and when we start in Australia. I’m honestly going to take it easy. I haven’t been home in a moment… I’m just going to see friends, see family, and just sort of plug back into kind of a little bit of countryside slowness.”

Love being able to see something and comment without having a ton of spammers trying to convince me to friend them and pretending to be the artist.I’m at the point where I am going back to being the silent fan who just watches the media and hopes to have an opportunity to see him live. Thank you for the interview!
