Melodic Music Monday: October 7

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

FINNEAS, “Cleats” – FINNEAS delivers an ode to an unrequited crush on “Cleats,” an indie-pop track featuring his airy vocals sprinkled over warm acoustic guitar. The accompanying music video, directed by Isaac Ravishankara, captures that feeling of being young and in love. On “Cleats,” the singer is being kicked around by youthful heartbreak and hopeful teenage romance against a backdrop of minimalist songwriting and bedroom pop vibes. He reflects on these feelings with lyrics like “Nothing you can do either / Old crush on the new teacher / Wave as soon as you see her / From the bleachers.”

– Clare Gehlich

——

KAWALA, “Old Me” – Emerging from North London, this five-piece indie pop band is known for their vibrant and playful sound across their music. This new single, however, brings a folk twist, deviating from what they are more often known for. The band pairs indie guitars, synths and ‘80s drum beats with endless layers of echoey falsetto vocals on this track in a way that can only be described as a mildly upbeat Bon Iver.

– Kelly Carciente

——

Walter The Producer, “Bad Bad Man” – “Bad Bad Man” is about protecting what is yours. Through leading guitar and steady bass, Walter The Producer fights to take back his lover from an enemy. Lyrics such as “I’m on the road to get her back from a bad man / Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on I’m coming back for you” show his determination to save his partner from an untrustworthy person.

– Emma Celenza

——

Amidy, “Undone” – From the opening bars, “Undone” draws listeners into a space of tension and anticipation. The track builds a slow-burning crescendo that keeps you on the edge, melding ethereal melodies with driving rhythms. This combination creates a hypnotic soundscape that feels like drifting through a lucid dream – haunting, yet undeniably captivating.

– Laury Verdoux
