Thursday night at the legendary Forest Hills Stadium, the atmosphere was electric as the much-anticipated Bread Tour came to NYC, featuring the Grammy-nominated duo SOFI TUKKER and the high-octane opener Confidence Man. This event was not just a concert; it was a vibrant celebration of life, dance, and community, perfectly embodied in Sofi Tukker’s third studio album, BREAD. An acronym for “Be Really Energetic and Dance,” the album’s ethos was evident throughout the night, compelling attendees to let loose and revel in the music.
London-based party starters Confidence Man set the tone with their jaw-dropping performance. Known for their unique approach to pop and dance music, the quartet—Janet Planet, Sugar Bones, Clarence McGuffie, and Reggie Goodchild—delivered a set that blended infectious energy with sharp, cheeky choreography. Their upcoming album, 3AM (LA LA LA), set to be released on October 18, promises to create a new rave soundtrack, and their set was a tantalizing preview. They thrilled the crowd with hits from their previous album, Confident Music for Confident People, including “Don’t You Know I’m in a Band” and “C.O.O.L. Party”, while also showcasing new tracks like “SO WHAT” and the euphoric house anthem “I CAN’T LOSE YOU,” highlighting their evolution as artists.
As the sun set, SOFI TUKKER took the stage, transforming the venue into a tropical paradise. The duo, comprised of best friends Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, has built a global reputation for their vibrant, community-driven performances. Their stage setup, an intriguing mix of Grecian columns and a whimsical playground—complete with arched monkey bars and a swing added a unique flair to the experience.
From the very first note, the crowd was entranced. Their hits like “Summer in New York” “Original Sin” and “Purple Hat” resonated throughout the stadium. The performance was not merely a showcase of talent; it was a masterclass in showmanship. They traversed through their discography, including tracks from their new album, BREAD, such as “Spiral,” “Throw Some Ass,” and “Goddess in Disguise” which included an impromptu dance session with Tucker’s brother Ian who joined the duo on stage.
The night culminated in a euphoric encore, where crowd favorites “Brazilian Soul” and “Drinkee” left attendees buzzing with energy. The intricate choreography, combined with a thoughtful stage design and engaging audience interactions, showcased SOFI TUKKER’S commitment to delivering a multifaceted experience that felt fresh and invigorating.
