The Force of Nature Tour rolled through the Buckhead Theater on Saturday, Sept 21, with a powerful lineup featuring PIAO, Cassadee Pope, and headliners Marianas Trench.

Opening the night, PIAO set the tone as the first of two female-fronted acts. Next up was Cassadee Pope, a name well-known both for her past as Hey Monday’s lead vocalist and her successful crossover into country music. However, the night saw her reconnecting with her rock roots in full force, celebrating her recent return with her rock album Hereditary.

Pope kicked off the set with, “Homecoming” from her Hey Monday days as well as “How You Love Me Now” transitioning seamlessly to “Defying Gravity” from Wicked. Pope played tracks new and old from her catalog including “The Poet,” a clever narrative about a smooth-talking partner whose romantic words ring hollow, and “People That I Love Leave.” She closed her set with a powerful rendition of her country hit “Wasting All These Tears,” proving that no matter the genre, Pope has returned to her roots.

Before making her exit, Pope took a moment to praise Marianas Trench for supporting female-fronted artists, with not one, but two female fronted artists for the night who had full sets.

As the lights dimmed, AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” echoed through the venue and the stage filled with artwork that looked like it popped straight off of their album cover, the crowd waited for Marianas Trench. The setlist was packed with fan favorites like “Here’s to the Zeros,” “Rhythm of Your Heart,” “One Love” and “Fallout” and even included a handful of new tracks from their recent release, Haven.

Bassist Mike Ayley stole the show briefly when he took the lead on vocals for “All to Myself,” drawing explosive chants of “Mike! Mike! Mike!” from the audience. The band even surprised fans with the live debut of “Nights Like These” and entertained the crowd with a little banter with Josh Ramsay’s witty commentary  when introducing “Pop 101”—a playful track born out of an AMA criticism.

Closing out with the fan-favorite “Stutter” and the new closing track from their recent release, “Haven,” Marianas Trench brought the night to a conclusion. Promising it won’t be another 5 years before they return, fans were able to leave the night with something to look forward to.

Marianas Trench will continue to tour North American through the end of the year.
