Cheat Codes is a Los Angeles-based trio that blends genres of dance, electronic, and pop. Their music has over six billion streams, and they hope to grow that number by collaborating with other artists. For their latest release, they have teamed up with Julia Church to create “Modern Tragedy,” a song that shares about starting again.
“Modern Tragedy” is about the ups and downs of dating. Through leading bass and driving percussion, Cheat Codes and Julia Church complain about the modern culture of dating. Lyrics such as “So here we go again / A night to feel alone / Guess it’s gonna be a modern tragedy / And I’m supposed to start again” show the cycle of meeting someone, trying to make things work, and ending up by yourself, leaving you to start from square one.
Sharing more about “Modern Tragedy”, Julia Church comments:
“‘Modern Tragedy’ is about navigating the trials and tribulations of modern dating. Feeling as though you’re stuck in a perpetual merry-go-round of excitement and let-downs. I wrote this after being ghosted by someone I really liked. Sometimes all you can do is laugh (and write a song about it).”
