Whether you are a fan of blink-182, Hoppus on Music, or After School Radio, you are familiar with Mark Hoppus. The legendary musician has been in the alt-music scene for nearly 30 years, which is quite some time. During this time, he has been a founding member of the already mentioned blink-182, as well as +44 and Simple Creatures. With blink-182, he has sold over 50 million albums and helped foster the rise of pop-punk into the mainstream. Hoppus also hosted a music talk show, Hoppus on Music, which consisted of news, conversations, and performances from both established and upcoming artists. More recently, he started a podcast on Apple Music that dives into iconic bands and songs in the scene. The man has done a lot, so he naturally has a lot to say. In Fahrenheit-182, his new memoir, Hoppus will be able to share his thoughts with the world on a more personal level, explaining how he got where he is today and where he plans on going next.
Out April 8, 2025, Fahrenheit-182 is an in-depth look at the life of Mark Hoppus, from navigating his parents’ divorce to starting one of the biggest pop-punk bands of all time. It “paints a vivid picture of what it was like to grow up in the 1980s as a latchkey kid hooked on punk rock, skateboards, and MTV,” as described on the publisher’s website. The book will also shed light on Hoppus’s ongoing struggles with anxiety and his experience in both battling and overcoming cancer. It promises to be “a funny, smart, and relatable memoir for anyone who has wanted to quit but kept going,” also mentioned on the publisher’s website.
Hoppus co-authored Fahrenheit-182 with LA-based music journalist Dan Ozzi. Over the years, Ozzi has written for publications like The Guardian, SPIN, and The Fader, and spent more than five years as a staff writer for Vice’s music website, Noisey. In 2016, Ozzi co-authored Tranny: Confessions of Punk Rock’s Most Infamous Anarchist Sellout with Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace. Ozzi’s 2021 book, Sellout: The Major Label Feeding Frenzy that Swept Punk, Emo and Hardcore, became a national bestseller and was included as a ‘Books We Love’ by NPR staff.
