Hello Sister explores betrayal in “Naive”

Date:

Hello Sister‘s new single “Naive” is a pop rock high energy anthem. The sister-composed girl group is made up of Grace Mason, Gabriella Mason, and Scarlett Mason. Together, they have completely channeled the spirit of the early 2000s pop punk scene where artists of a similar sound like Avril Lavigne flourished. There’s an infectious charm within the song as it’s nostalgic to an era of music within its genre yet holds out a modern twist.

Melodically, “Naive” holds the traditional pop punk sound that people know and love, but the use of tone in Gabriella’s voice adds a fresh energy to the track. It opens with a rather compelling synth immediately followed by electrifying drums by Scarlett. It’s a high energy song that will have you on your feet singing along pretty immediately.

Lyrically, the framework of the track seems to tackle the theme of misplaced trust. The lyrics take the listener through the rollercoaster of emotions that comes with dealing with betrayal. Gabriella makes a point to have the lyrics be sharp and poignant to get the message across. Having this intensity in the lyrics overall enhances the song as it’s only complemented by the fast tempo and upbeat melody.

Overall, the song holds true to the pop punk/rock classics while still sonically having a slightly more modern sound. Listeners within the genre will appreciate the traditional instrumentals but any and all listeners can appreciate the catchy and meaningful lyricism.
