California’s own Incubus brought the best vibes to a sold out TD Garden in Boston, as they performed the classic Morning View in its entirety, joined by special guests Coheed and Cambria. The concept comes after the band re-recorded their 2001 album, releasing it as Morning View XXIII, and embarking on a highly anticipated arena tour. Fans of all walks of life gathered early, many in different styles on Incubus-themed attire, ready to experience one of the band’s most beloved releases in full.
Kicking things off was Coheed and Cambria, and interesting contrast in sound that went perfectly with Incubus’ energy. The band’s intense opening set focused heavily on their earlier material, while blending in tracks off 2022’s Vaxis II: A Window of The Waking Mind. From “Blood Red Summer” to the closing classic “Welcome Home”, Coheed and Cambria’s thunderous sound lit the room on fire, leaving fans eager for more after the set was over.
The mood shifted and anticipation kept growing, as it was time for Incubus to take over. They would start off with playing Morning View in its entirety, then move on to a short set of hits. Many fans were excited to hear the album in full live, especially knowing which song opens the album: after slowly taking their spots in the dark, the band went straight into the furious “Nice To Know You”, met with immediate roars coming from the crowd. “Circles” and the massive hit “Wish You Were Here” came next, with the latter quickly becoming one of the many highlights of the show. The vibrant energy emanating from the audience was overwhelming, as there was a sense os synergy between Incubus and their fans.
“Blood On The Ground” and “Mexico” saw the band slow down their frantic pace and do a stripped down acoustic set, as they sat comfortably at the edge of the stage. “Are You In?” changed the energy once again, with its sultry vibe — with a twist; a snippet of Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight” blended in seamlessly, and this wouldn’t be the last time Incubus would sneak in a cover. Rihanna’s “Umbrella” also made an appearance, during “Under My Umbrella” evidently, as fans happily sang along. “Aqueous Transmission” brought Morning View‘s portion of the show to a close, with a lengthy ovation from the audience.
After a tender moment amongst the band, they took their spots once again to play a string of fan favorites, starting off strong with “Anna Molly”. A rocking version of The Beatles’ “Come Together” made its way into the mix, along with the likes of “Pardon Me” and “Dig”. Closing the show was “Drive”, bringing an unforgettable experience to a close. The overall energy in the room was vibrant, ethereal and celebratory, and Incubus’ performance was strong and most of all, incredibly inspired.
