In a recent stop by Audacy studios in Los Angeles, pop icon Katy Perry discussed her plans for a touring, her upcoming album 143, out Sept. 20, and her love for her fans. Next week, Perry will receive the Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards, airing on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

In conjunction with gearing up for the release 143, Perry said she is planning a major tour — her first since “Witness: The Tour” in 2017-2018.

“I wanna go on tour, I wanna go and visit all of my fans who have come out so hard and so supportive and [still] ride. They have ridden so hard for me,” Perry said. “Not to be cheesy, but we have really loved each other for lifetimes.”

One of the things she’s most looking forward to is connecting with fans again in the flesh. “I’ve grown up with them and we’ve grown up together and we’ve kind of leaned on each other,” Perry said. “I gotta go and give my love out, and that’s what I’m gonna do.”

Acknowledging how COVID-19 impacted the live music industry, Perry said that, “I think live music and the live music experience is more alive than ever before. People love to connect in this way now, again.”

In the midst of a busy season for Perry — from promotion for 143 to VMAs preparation — she said that she is in a new place in her career, now 16 years since she skyrocketed to fame with the release of “I Kissed A Girl” in 2008.

“I’m very proud of everything I accomplished, and I don’t feel like I have anything to prove,” Perry said. “I’m creating from this abundance [of] artistic space. I always wanted to make a dance-pop record, so I’ve checked that [off my] bucket list. And there [are] a couple of records that I have in my mind that I still want to make, and I’ll just go along that process if I get the opportunity to. This is a part of my purpose [and] my vision for myself.”

In response to Audacy host Bru asking if there was anything else Perry wished to fill her fans in on she said, “I just want to tell them I love them. I’m so excited to see them around the world, if you want to have a fun dance party or if you want to have your spirits lifted, I think 143 will do the trick.”
