The stories of two iconic music venues to be told in ‘This Ain’t No Disco’ and ‘Marquee’

Date:

There are so many venues around the world that have a legendary history, that have hosted many iconic artists and bands over the years. The stories of two of these venues will be told on October 15 with This Ain’t No Disco: The Story of CBGB and Marquee: The Story of the World’s Greatest Music Venue.

Originally released in 1988, This Ain’t No Disco: The Story of CBGB by Roman Kozak gets into the history, memories, and gossip that surround the renowned New York venue. Considered the “birthplace of punk and new wave in America in the 1970s,” CBGB helped launch the careers of groundbreaking groups and artists like the Ramones, Blondie, and Talking Heads. As time went on, its stories became greater than the musicians themselves, encouraging people from all over to visit CBGB just to say they did. In addition to its original text and quotes from staff, media, and musicians, this new paperback edition will include a foreword by Chris Frantz of Talking Heads, 12 pages of photographs by Ebet Roberts, and two historical reports of the venue’s closing in 2006.

In Marquee: The Story of the World’s Greatest Music Venue, Nick Pendleton (the son of the club’s founders) and Robert Sellers share all the inside scoop about the Marquee’s 30-year history. The venue started out as a jazz club on London’s Oxford Street before moving to Soho’s Wardour Street, where it showcased artists like the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and Cream. It then became a place for progressive rock, new wave, and heavy metal, changing with the times and highlighting groups like Genesis, Iron Maiden, Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, and more. Readers will become experts on the Marquee as they learn about its illustrious history, which includes important dates, crazy stories, notorious milestones, and juicy behind-the-scenes drama that took place within its walls. The book was originally released a few years ago in Great Britain and will now be available for the first time in North America.

Pre-sale for This Ain’t No Disco: The Story of CBGB and Marquee: The Story of the World’s Greatest Music Venue will be available soon. Both books arrive October 15.
