Being Dead to release upcoming album ‘EELS’ on Sept. 27

Date:

The Austin, Texas-based project Being Dead, led by multi-instrumentalists and best friends Falcon Bitch and Shmoofy, has unveiled their new single, “Night Vision,” along with the announcement of their upcoming album, EELS, set to be released on Sept. 27 via Bayonet.

“Night Vision” is a sweet blend of guitar rock and indie, starting with an acoustic guitar that later erupts into a moody beat. EELS, their dreamlike 16-track record, is characterized by its unpredictability, mosaic-like compositions and technicolor elements, creating an intimate and immediate magic.

The band recorded the album in Los Angeles over two weeks with GRAMMY-winning producer John Congleton, marking a significant shift in their creative process. Congleton assisted the duo in peeling back the layers, creating a beautiful foundation for sonic and lyrical innovations. EELS is a darker record, exploring themes of devilishness, heartbreak, excitement, enchantment and dancing.

The songs on EELS are as fluid and adaptable as their animal namesake, moving like a slither through murky waters or surreal half-dreams — mysterious, beautiful, and reflective. The album artwork, created by artist Julia Soboleva, features a glimmer of light against a cloud of darkness, encapsulating Being Dead’s playful yet dark energy that defines this uniquely beautiful album.
