Acting as the second single to his upcoming project, and following the release of “Static,” dying in designer have recently released “Replace Me,” a powerful song drawing on a similar pop-punk sound established in his earlier work.
The singer taps into contemporary pop punk with heavy electric guitars that pick up in tempo throughout the progression of the song along with drawn-out syllables similar to blink-182 that are prototypical to the emo-pop punk genre. dying in designer has teamed up with Noah Polino, known for his remarkable guitar riffs on Instagram, to achieve an energetic and electrifying sound. With Polino’s help, a number of riffs stand out for deviating from the uniform structure of your average song.
The song’s catchy chorus acts as a vehicle to transport the different progressions in the track. The song begins with a hazy stripped-down guitar and echoed vocals before progressively layering heavier guitars and intensely deep harmonies. By the third chorus, the song takes an unexpected dive after a high peak, coming back to the stripped-down strumming to act as a bridge into the final chorus.
It is clear that dying in designer is focused on transforming the pop punk structure. The band is set on capturing “the new wave of pop punk,” and hope to do the genre justice for long-time and future fans of the genre.
The singer takes a stab at songwriting. Through clever uses of metaphors comparing his previous partner’s desire to leave and find someone new, dying in designer sings, “strike a match, set a flame to the memories.” He further dwells on the weight of his emotions when singing “feeling so empty when the glass is half full.”
Taking a twist on the beloved genre, meeting the interests of fans of The Story So Far, Neck Deep, Machine Gun Kelly or State Champs, dying in designer’s “Replace Me” stands tall as a new perspective on the structure of pop punk.
