Alternative pop band PEPTALK released their latest single “Your World” with Grammy-nominated singer Montaigne. Members Jay-Lee Kwan, Lara Few, and Phoebe Sinclair produce a lively song that addresses the pointlessness of trying to communicate with someone who doesn’t care to listen.
The song immediately begins with playful beats that makes you feel like you’re in an arcade. Considering the fun cover art including a sticker of a game controller, the diverse girl group succeed in creating a vibe they want listeners to experience.
However, the lyrics talk about how they were played as lead vocalist Phoebe Sinclair sings “I want to do my best to be who I am / While you were on a quest to not give a damn” with more emphasis on “damn” of course. This leads to them belting out “It’s your world / And I’m just living in it” in the chorus. But they gain confidence when they sing “F*ck if I don’t fit in” to prove to listeners that you shouldn’t bother talking to someone who won’t listen.
Members Lara Frew, who plays the bass, and Phoebe Sinclair were chosen to participate in Troye Sivan’s pride songwriting camp, Songhubs. It was there that they met Montaigne and eventually created “Your World” which combines Montaigne’s art pop stylings and PEPTALK’s indie poptimism. Next week, the band will be featured on Australia’s artist showcase BIGSOUND.
