Singer-songwriter and producer allie has announced her self-produced sophomore studio album, Every Dog, will be available for fans on Sept. 27 via Snack Shack Tracks and Anxiety Blanket Records. This immersive, effervescent and evocative album is an exploration of queer love, self-love and personal growth.
Every Dog spans 27 minutes and dives deep into themes of queer love, isolative depression and self-reflection. It captures the essence of Western U.S. road trips and reads like a personal journal, offering a spiritual outlet for allie. The album’s narrative focuses on self-discovery and the complexities of interpersonal relationships.
Alongside the announcement, allie, or Allie Cuva, shared the project’s title track, to what she calls “a somewhat abstract representation of my own journey and the journeys of my loved ones.” Recorded in Brooklyn with bandmates Alex Harwood (guitar), Maxwell Zikakis (bass/synth) and Patrick Freeman (drums), the song embodies the chaotic energy of New York City while exploring themes of supporting an ex-lover and seeking self-identity.
Delving into the intimate subject matter, allie adds, “Looking back, I think the song “’Every Dog’” was a way for me to honor both the pain of necessary separation from beloved people who had once been very close to me, and also the sense of peace and acceptance I felt in knowing such decisions were made for the right reasons–out of love for the other and myself.”
Earlier this year, allie shared the album’s lead single, “Radio Shower,” in July. The track, which touches on aging, loss and love, features nylon guitar plucks, crisp vocals and layered instrumental parts. She said she recorded approximately 32 mix revisions, staying true to the spirit of the original recording.
Allie is self-confident and free on her new record and in a press release, elaborated on the new album:
“‘Every Dog’ highlights different growths I’ve experienced as a songwriter, in the efficacy of both more abstract-leaning and literal-leaning types of storytelling. I felt freer to write about my own experiences and wherever else my imagination took me, worrying less about fitting in with other artist peers, and just wanting to make something that felt fair and real and true to my life in this vast and crazy world.”
