The Saviors tour hit Truist Park in Atlanta last night, and what a night it was. Local openers Paradox ripped through a few well known punk covers to get the afternoon buzzing. I never don’t love singing along to NoFX. After them The Linda Lindas brought the fun. As the bopped around the stage to their melodic songs like “Too Many Things” and “Excuse Me” you couldn’t help but bop a little too.
Next up were Green Day’s bay area brothers, Rancid. Veterans to not only the scene, but tour with the mighty GD, Rancid began to set the mood. Peppered in were a few new songs, but when “When I got the music….I gotta Place to go!” from Radio played, I’m brought back leaving high school in my friends corolla with the windows down.
The Smashing Pumpkins sounded flawless and they tore through their set. It was an amazing experience being able to see them seamlessly transition between heavier songs and calmer ones like “Today” and “Tonight, Tonight.” Consummate professionals. As they left the stage the sun began to recede behind the stadium lights and that meat a pretty historic moment to enjoy.
Green Day ripped through 2 full records, as well as peppering in half a dozen other tracks from various records including their newest, Saviors. They kicked things off with their newest “The American Dream is Killing Me” packed full of fireball bursts and crowd echoing. But once this 3 minute jam was over, they flew right into the 30th Anniversary of Dookie, and I’ll be damned if it didn’t sound perfect. The boys haven’t lost a single step.
Throughout the night Billie Joe made references to Atlanta, Hotlanta, the south and “The Representative from Georgia now has the floor!” all to the enjoyment of the crowd. In between Dookie and American Idiot, they played a few more off of Saviors, which showcases how well they stand up against the Green Day we are all used too.
For any fan of Green Day, this is definitely a tour not to be missed. A trip down memory lane, but with the volume cranked to 11.

I was there on the floor. I’m not on camera, but holy shit the first two shots are basically in my direction for those daytime shows. Once the main event started I opted to just get up from the seat because, screw it: I can’t be in the pit, but I’m going to mosh anyway.
It was worth the wait!
