For nearly 30 years, Sum 41 have been out there showing the world what rock means to them. They have sold over 15 million records worldwide, found placement on the Billboard charts, received nominations and wins for prestigious awards like the Juno and Alternative Press Music Awards, and have performed at major venues and festivals all over the world. They have also soundtracked countless memories for their fans and will continue to do so in the years to come, despite releasing their final album back in March. This final album, Heaven :x: Hell, ends Sum 41’s career on a high note, as hit single “Landmines” marked the band’s first #1 single since “Fat Lip” reached #1 on the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart in 2001. This final release has also brought them to a new performance high, as Sum 41 are set to play their largest show to date at the Paris La Défense Arena in November in support of the album.
There is a long history behind the band, of course, and if anyone had to write a book about everything Sum 41 has gone through, it would be frontman Deryck Whibley. On October 8, he will be releasing Walking Disaster: My Life Through Heaven and Hell, a memoir that shares his experience with the group over the years. Readers will get a backstage pass to the highs and lows of Sum 41, along with personal stories about how those highs and lows affected Whibley’s relationships, friendships, and overall health. It is the ultimate inside look at Sum 41, as Whibley describes success and the music industry through an “insightful, earnest, and genuine voice.”
In between dates of Sum 41’s ‘Tour of the Setting Sum,’ Whibley will head out on a tour in support of the new memoir. The tour will begin in Jersey City on October 8, make its way to Boston on October 9, to Los Angeles on October 10, and wrap up in Las Vegas on October 11. The first three stops will include a conversation led by renowned moderators that get into Whibley’s triumphs and downfalls both in and out of the band. All attendees will leave with a signed copy of the book. Full list of dates and tickets can be found below.

About his memoir, Whibley shares,
“Ten years ago, I found myself on the brink of death in a hospital bed. Surviving that moment, I made a promise to myself: I would fight harder than ever for this band and strive to become the best version of myself. Today, I’m proud to say that Sum 41 is experiencing the greatest success in our career, with our biggest hits on the radio and performing at the largest shows of our lives. This book is the story of that journey – through the good, the bad, and the really fucking ugly. It’s about how I fought my way back, the battles I faced along the way, and how I turned those struggles into the fuel that powers everything I do now.”
